about

Various more or less well-known Vihuela pieces by Alonso Mudarra, Luys de Narvaez and Enriquez de Valderrabano, recorded around 1997 using my 10 course renaissance lute.

At a longer stay in Mexico City in Winter 1996/7 I had the opportunity to borrow a Vihuela, and a thick, easily readable modern edition of vihuela tablatures along with it.

I immediately fell in love with that repertoire, the sound of the instrument and how the music fell in place when using the tuning it was written for.

Back at home I recorded the pieces using my lute which has a quite similar sound quality and play feel, compared to modern classical guitar.

I've also recorded these pieces on a classical guitar that I brought from Mexico (retuned and with capo at third fret to play in original pitch and fingering), and will eventually make a companion album or add them as bonus tracks here.

about

edogawa Vienna, Austria

edogawa is my nickname on IRC (linux audio related channels), and I've chosen it for publishing my music.

I love to play early music on guitars, lutes and similar, and sometimes fool around with my other instruments to build unusual arrangements of such music.

During the mid-late 1980's I also started to improvise and compose my own music, combining MIDI and multitracked acoustic instruments.
